1. David n'avait rien que sa fronde
Pour lutter contre le géant;
Mais au fond de son cœur d'enfant,
Habitait une foi profonde.
Il savait bien que l'Éternel
Combattrait avec lui pour sauver Israël! (x2)
2. Il avançait ferme et tranquille
Contre le Philistin puissant,
Qui, l'œil hautain et méprisant,
Riait de son air juvénile,
Et se moquait de l'Éternel,
Qui choisissait David pour sauver Israël! (x2)
3. Mais sans trembler, d'une main sûre,
L'enfant, que son Dieu dirigeait,
Fit au colosse, d'un seul jet,
Une inguérissable blessure.
Et c'est ainsi que l'Éternel,
Selon son bon plaisir, délivrait Israël! (x2)
4. Comme David, Tu nous appelles
A de grands combats, ô Seigneur!
Pour en sortir à Ton honneur,
Comme David, rends-nous fidèles,
Et l'on verra que l'Éternel
Se tient auprès de nous, comme auprès
d'Israël. (x2)
5. Et si le mal nous environne,
Et s'il devient plus fort que nous,
Nous T'implorerons à genoux,
Toi qui ne rejettes personne!
Et, répondant à notre appel,
Tu lutteras pour nous, ô Sauveur-Eternel! (x2)

1. David had nothing but his slingshot,
To fight against the great giant;
Fearless, full of faith and valiant,
He advanced to Goliath's eyeshot;
He knew well that the Almighty
Would surely fight with him to set Israel free. (x2)
2. He moved calmly but with assurance
Against the giant Philistine,
Who with a proud and scornful eye,
Made fun of his youthful appearance,
And dared to mock the Almighty,
Who had chosen David to set Israel free. (x2)
3. Without trembling and in a good mood,
The child who was led by his God,
Inflicted in only one go
The giant an incurable wound
And that is how the Almighty
According to His will did set Israel free! (x2)
4. Like David You call us to be fruitful,
To fully rely on Your might,
And be victorious in all fight.
Like David, help us to be faithful,
And all shall see that our Savior,
Who stood by Israel, is more than conqueror. (x2)
5. If evil appears stronger than us,
And seems greater than we can bear,
We shall come to You in prayer,
For You've promised to deliver us.
And responding to our cry,
You will surely fight for us, O Lord God Most High! (x2)
