1. Le royaum’ des cieux est comme
Un homme qui a semé
De bonn’ semence’ dans son champ.
Mais, pendant que les gens dormaient,
Son ennemi vint, sema
De l’ivraie parmi le blé,
Et s’en alla. Et lorsque l’herbe eut
poussé
Et donné du fruit, l’ivraie
aussi
Parut. Et les serviteurs du maître
De la maison vinr’nt lui dir’: Seigneur,
n’as-tu
Pas semé une’ bonn’ semence dans ton
champ?
2. D’où vient donc qu’il a
l’ivraie?
Il leur dit: Un ennemi
A fait cela. Et les serviteurs
Lui dir’nt: Veux-tu que nous
Allions l’arracher? Non, dit-il,
De peur qu’en arrachant
L’ivraie, vous n’arrachiez en
mêm’ temps le blé.
Laissez croître ensemble l’un
et l’autre
Jusqu’à la moisson, et, je dirai
Aux moissonneurs: Arrachez d’abord l’ivraie,
Et liez-la en gerbes pour la brûler…
3. Mais amassez le blé dans
Mon grenier. Celui qui sème
La bonne semence’, c’est le Fils
De l’hom’; le champ, c’est le monde;
La bonn’ semence’, c’est les fils
Du royaum’; l’ivraie: Les fils
Du diabl’, qui est l’ennemi qui l’a
semée…
La moisson, c’est la fin du monde; et
Les moissonneurs, sont les anges. Or,
Comme on arrache’ l’ivraie et la jette au feu,
Il en sera de même à la fin du monde.
4. Le Fils de l’homme enverra
Ses anges, qui ôteront
De Son royaum’ tous les scandales’
Et ceux qui commett’nt le mal:
Et ils les jetteront dans
La fournaise ardente, où il
Y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.
Alors les justes resplendiront,
Ils resplendiront com’ le soleil
Dans le royaum’ de leur Père. Que celui
Qui a des oreilles pour entendre entende.

1. The kingdom of heaven is
Like a man who sowed good seed
In his field; but while men slept,
His enemy came and sowed weeds
Among the wheat and went his
Way. But when the grain came up
And bore a crop, then the weeds also appeared.
So the servants of the owner came
And said to him: Sir, did you not sow
Good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?
He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’
2. And the servants said to him,
‘Do you want us then to go
And pull them up?’ But he said,
‘No, lest while you pull up the weeds
You also uproot the wheat
Along with them. Suffer both
To come up together until the harvest.
And at the time of harvest I will
Say to the harvesters: First gather
The weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them,
But gather the wheat into my granary.
3. He who sows the good seed is
The Son of Man. And the field
Is the world, and the good seeds
Stand for the sons of the kingdom,
But the weeds are the sons of
The wicked or evil one.
The enemy who sowed them is the devil…
The harvest is the end of the age,
And the harvesters are the angels.
As the weeds are gathered and burned in the fire,
So shall it be at the full end of this age.
4. The Son of Man will send out
His angels, and they will weed
Out of His kingdom all things that offend,
And those who practice
Lawlessness, and will cast them
Into the furnace of fire,
Where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Then the righteous, the righteous will shine,
They’ll shine like the sun in the kingdom
Of their Father. He, who has ears, let him hear!
The righteous will shine like the sun before God.
